WHO WE ARE AND OUR AIMS
The English-Speaking Corner has been set up on a voluntary basis by a group of people who have been living and working in Spain for many years. Our goal is to bring comfort and companionship to English-speaking senior citizens living in Madrid, often unable to integrate in local care homes for the elderly, due to language and cultural barriers.
Our aim is to ensure that our elderly people receive good professional care as well as visits and social activities in their native language, English. Their nationality -- whether they are from Britain, America, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Canada, etc. -- is irrelevant. We are very aware of cultural differences, and as people get older they generally find comfort and understanding by being with people with similar cultural backgrounds.
